Dr. Fayad Z. Sheabar, D.Sc., DABT
Dr. Sheabar is a board-certified toxicologist with 30+ years of experience in conducting toxicology research and risk assessment.
His expertise lies in food toxicology and safety, genotoxicity, carcinogenesis, chemical and in vitro method development and validation, inhalation toxicology, skin toxicology, identification of early disease biomarkers, and bioassay development.
Dr. Sheabar is the author of 11 peer-reviewed journal papers and the inventor of seven registered patents in the USA and other countries. He is the recipient of several honors and awards, including AACE’s President’s Academic Staff Excellence Award and Kemin Worldwide’s President’s Award for Peer-Reviewed Journal Papers and President’s Award for Best White Paper.
Dr. Sheabar has presented his research findings at several national and international scientific conferences, including Education at the Forefront of Science, Social Justice International Conference, The Annual Conference of the Israel Society for Ecology and Environmental Quality Sciences, The 4th Annual Meeting of the Committee for Research & Prevention on Occupational Safety & Health (Israel), The International Conference on Economics, Occupational Safety and Health Environment (Peoples’ Republic of China), and The Annual Meeting of the Israeli Biochemical Society.
He has also been an invited speaker at research institutes, companies, and governmental offices, such as Des Moines University (DMU) College of Osteopathic Medicine, The American Health Foundation (Valhalla, NY), National Center for Information on Toxicology and Poisons, Rambam Medical Center & Faculty of Medicine, and Technion – Israel Institute of Technology.
As a toxicologist, he is frequently asked to provide expert opinion, participate in television and radio programs, and author articles in local newspapers aimed at addressing health and environmental risks from exposure to various chemicals and products (e.g., food, CPGs, electronic cigarettes).
Dr. Sheabar has served on several committees and study section panels, notably the National Committee on Carcinogens (Society for the Prevention of Cancer) and was a member of the Steering Advisory Committee on Environment and Health for the “Healthy Cities” Program of the United Nations World Health Organization.
He is a member of scientific societies, including the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) since 1990, the Society of Toxicology (SOT) since 2004, the American Society for Cellular and Computational Toxicology (ASCCT), and several SOT specialty sections.
Dr. Sheabar previously served as an expert evaluator of research proposals for the European Commission from 1998–2000 and has submitted research proposals and reports, obtaining external and internal funding for scientific and educational research projects. He was also a reviewer of publication manuscripts in Cancer Research, Biomedical, and the Environmental Science and Life Journal from 1995 to 2000.
Dr. Sheabar has directed the scientific and educational research of undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs, and visiting scientists. His research interests are in carcinogenesis and genotoxicity, with a focus on developing biomarkers for early disease detection, in vitro bioassays for the assessment of exposure and effect measurement, and investigating chemicals’ mechanisms of action.
